Guest Speaker: Amy Paul

Amy Paul is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.  She came to talk to my PR Tactics II class about her journey after college through the "real world" and how she ended up where she is now!  She really enjoys her work in the public relations world.  I was really surprised at how quickly she landed a job, and how many jobs she has had in such a short amount of time!
Amy currently works as an Interactive Account Coordinator for Ascedia.  Before Ascedia, she worked at Bottom Line Marketing and Public Relations as a Public Relations Assistant.  The kind of job she had at Bottom Line Marketing and Public Relations is a pretty standard way to start out as a public relations professional, and I hope to be able to start out as a Public Relations Assistant after graduation.  Her first job after graduation was at the Milwaukee County Executive's Office as a Public Relations Assistant.
Amy has been fairly successful in the job world post-graduation and lent some really helpful advice to our eager class.  She said to get involved, work hard, network and land internships.  She had a lot of internships throughout college, and that is one thing that I know I need to improve on.  I think that her journey is inspiring and I hope to be as successful as she is.

The PR Student

HELLO!

My name is Brittney and I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. I am pursuing a major in public relations with a minor in political science.  I have an interest in politics (obviously, judging by my minor choice) and hope to work in public affairs one day.  I also have an interest in working for an agency or doing corporate public relations. I love that within the field of public relations there are a lot of options as far as career choices.  I am looking forward to my classes this semester because I am right in the core of my major classes and the courses are very specified towards different aspects of public relations. I started this blog as a part of my Public Relations Tactics II course.  In this course, we will be learning about social media's impact on the world of public relations as well as solidifying our writing skills.
Besides school, I am involved in a variety of things on campus including Public Relations Student Society of America, Delta Zeta Sorority and Whitewater Student Government.  I am the Vice President of Membership for Delta Zeta and serve on the executive board as the Student Affairs director for Whitewater Student Government.
I work as a student assistant in the Office of the Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor.  I started working there my sophomore year and it has been quite the learning experience!  I am hoping to find an internship in the field of public relations for the upcoming spring semester.  I have been looking at a couple public relation's agencies in the area.

I hope you will continue to follow my journey!
